On June 9, 2009, Efficiency Production, Inc.; the Michigan Rural Water Association (MRWA); and Southeastern Equipment Co., hosted Municipal Safety Day, for Michigan communities’ Departments of Public Works (DPW) and Water Department personnel. The third annual event attracted 85 participants from more than 30 Michigan communities.
“Municipal Day is designed specifically for public works personnel,” said Ken Forsberg, President of Efficiency Production, Inc. “We combined three very important safety issues for these workers: confined spaces, backhoe operation, and trench safety; into a practical, in-the-classroom and in-the-field training.”
Participants spent the morning part of the day in classroom training on Confined Spaces and MIOSHA Excavation Safety Standards. The afternoon session featured Field Training, on:
· Backhoe safety and operation, presented by Southeastern Equipment;
· Aluminum Hydraulic Shoring uses and operation training, and
· Application of trench safety equipment in different excavation conditions.
